Reminder--Reaction Paper #1 is not due until Wednesday 2/7/07. If you want to get a head start, the paper will be about William Wordsworth's Preface to Lyrical Ballads. Your reaction paper should address the following: Focus on one aspect of Wordsworth's Preface, one of his major points. What does he appear to be saying? (Illustrate your idea of his purpose with excerpts from the text.) Next, answer the question of whether or not you agree. Then, explain your position and support it. If his argument is flawed, point out the flaw by using excerpts of his Preface to support your point. You can also point to works we've looked at so far to either support or refute Wordsworth's point. The whole idea is to begin reacting (forming opinions) about works of writing and supporting your opinions with the text. Just remember that with every piece of literature, some idea or thought or impression is coming through. Don't try to "find" the "right" answer--focus on what is coming through to you.
